Margaret Gilsenan, Founding Partner of Boys and Girls Posted on February 14, 2024 by ticklesister
Margaret Gilsenan is a founding partner of Boys and Girls, a communications company that celebrated its first birthday at the end of 2010 after a very successful first year in business.
Margaret is a director of Plan Ireland, sponsoring children in Mali and Indonesia and had the pleasure of meeting her Malian sponsored child during a trip to see two Plan Ireland funded schools opening in Mali in 2007.
Because I am a Girl I ask… that every now and then you just call into, pick up the phone, write a letter or drop an email to someone you haven’t seen for a while – you can never have too many friends.
Because I am a Girl I believe… girls and boys are equally important, and working together we can really complement each other’s natural talents and abilities (that’s why I work in a company that’s called Boys and Girls)
Because I am a Girl I hope… today’s generations remember how hard our predecessors fought to gain equal rights for us, and that in our turn we support girls across the world as they strive for equal rights.
Because I am a Girl I wonder… after visiting Mali, how women, who live and rear their families in very difficult circumstances, can be so full of joie de vivre and I envy their spirit.
Because I am a Girl I dream… that countries (with oppressive customs and laws prohibiting women’s rights), get enlightened leaders who help break the straitjackets in which their women are bound.
Because I am a Girl I remember… having to do ‘girls’ jobs growing up (which was often good, as I lived on a farm, so some boys jobs were not enviable).
Because I am a Girl I like… that there is nothing great girlfriends won’t do for one another.
Because I am a Girl I dislike… that sometimes as girls we let ourselves down by allowing the bitchier sides of our personalities emerge.
Because I am a Girl I feel… lucky after visiting Mali in West Africa and realising that if I lived there I would have about one year left to live.
Because I am a Girl I… want a world where every girl can wake up and think ‘Yes I can’.
