Liv Morgan is Staff Editor/Writer with WMB (Women Mean Business) Magazine. She has a BA in Journalism from Dublin City University and spent time studying in Sydney, Australia. Prior to WMB, Liv was a freelance writer contributing to other business and specialist titles. Four and a half years ago she came to find her true passion with WMB – highlighting and encouraging the progression, achievements and inspiring stories of women in both the national and international arena.
Liv spent much of her childhood growing up in Saudi Arabia. So she has a penchant for travelling to far-flung destinations, with Yemen, Philippines, Egypt, India, Bali and South Africa under her belt to mention but a few.
Liv enjoys writing, reading, spending time with friends and learning about new cultures in her spare time.
Because I am a Girl I ask…to be judged on merit and not by my gender.
Because I am a Girl I believe…in girl power; I am entitled to be adored, loved and respected, and anything less than that is unacceptable.
Because I am a Girl I hope…to never be discouraged from pursuing what I want. In the words of Eleanor Roosevelt: “You gain strength, courage & confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”
Because I am a Girl I wonder…when we will truly have equality of the sexes? When we can all live in a society where men and women have equal access to education; have equal opportunities for financial independence through employment or through entrepreneurship; an equal grasp of power and influence and the chance to pursue personal ambitions without feeling guilty as to whether I have neglected my family.
Because I am a Girl I dream…BIG… Dream Big. Start small. Have it all.
Because I am a Girl I remember…that it is okay to be selfish. I refuse to sit happily in the role that as a girl I should give to others first and wait to see if there’s anything left over for me.
Because I am a Girl I like…that it is up to me to overturn the female stereotype. On being underestimated, I have the advantage. When people have lower expectations it’s easier to not only succeed but to surpass expectation time and time again.
Because I am a Girl I dislike…that society has programmed me to believe that I should be a wife, mother, nurturer, caregiver. Maybe, I just what to be one of these things, or none? My life = my choice. If I choose to forgo having children, marrying and unashamedly strive to earn more than my partner I want to be respected for this, not tutted at or questioned why?
Because I am a Girl I feel…under pressure to be faster, smarter and more ambitious than my male counterparts just so I can be viewed on an equal footing to them.
Because I am a Girl I…am more likely to earn less than a man, to be absent from a political party, appointed to a company board, judged for how I dress, sexually assaulted, and risk shadowing years of hard work building up my career once I decide to have children. Yet, on the other hand, because I am a girl I am inspired and motivated by those wonderful women who have paved the way before me and have shown that nothing is impossible and that all things worth having are worth fighting for.
