Jennie McGinn, co-creator, What Will I Wear Today Posted on October 22, 2023 by planirl
Jennie is co-creator of What Will I Wear Today, an Irish fashion website that tackles fashion and lifestyle trends in a cheeky and light-hearted manner. The energetic pace and tone of the site has cemented WWIWT as one of Ireland’s most loved websites and international press has taken note. WWIWT won the European Best Blogger Competition with ONLY Jeans, been shortlisted for Look Magazine’s Best Irish and UK blogger and was runner-up in Faye Dinsmore’s Best Irish Fashion Blog competition.
WWIWT has acted as a brand ambassador for Vero Moda, Diet Coke and ONLY Jeans and received press coverage in all of the major national publications including The Sunday Times Style Magazine, Tatler, Xpose, The Daily Mail, Star Magazine and Le Cool. The down-to-earth attitude and warm personalities of the girls has been called-on for radio interviews with Spin, Newstalk and FM 104 alongside TV interviews with Ireland’s flagship fashion programme Off the Rails and RTE’s Red Radar.
Because I am a Girl I ask…what sort of media environment will my young sisters grow into? Will they feel hopeful, optimistic and invigorated, or will they be beaten down by self-criticism, self-doubt and negativity?
Because I am a Girl I believe…that women and men are capable of dreaming of, planning for and achieving the same things. The EXACT same things.
Because I am a Girl I hope…that casual sexism will fall off a cliff and die.
Because I am a Girl I wonder…if men are fully aware of what sexism really is and if women realise when they are victims of sexist behaviour.
Because I am a Girl I dream…that women and men will respect each other as equals and not blindly accept constructed gender stereotypes. I also dream of being an Olympic athlete (horse-riding or Athletics) but I feel I may have missed the boat on that one…
Because I am a Girl I remember…Take That. The first time round. I remember wanting to run my own business (because my Dad did) and now I’m making that happen.
Because I am a Girl I like…admiring my shoe collection and talking about wedding dresses as much as I like doing army assault courses and going to sweaty dubstep gigs and having intense conversations about political corruption in Italy – I’m a girl and I have many interests.
Because I am a Girl I dislike…the way reality TV portrays women and how young girls can be subsumed into the distorted world of celebrity culture without even realising.
Because I am a Girl I feel…that if more girls questioned why there were so few women in power or if more boys questioned how men and women were presented in the media, we could have a genuinely equal society.
Because I am a Girl I celebrate…the fact that I am a better driver than most of my male friends.
