Aoife Cunningham is a blogger and third level student from Dublin Ireland, currently studying English and German. Her thoughts can be read at www.aoifeinwonderland.wordpress.com . She hopes to venture into the world of journalism or teaching, but her ultimate goal is to one day be published. She also planning on getting more involved with charity work, having previously spent a year as a voluntary youth worker, but for now is concentrating on balancing my academic life with work and leisure.
- Because I am a Girl I ask …. why gender inequality still exists.
- Because I am a Girl I believe …. Everyone should be equal.
- Because I am a Girl I hope …. That the media will no longer heavily influence society (females particularly) to look a certain way. I hope that all sizes, choices and appearances are accepted, rather than judged or influenced.
- Because I am a Girl I wonder …. What the Suffragettes would think of today’s society.
- Because I am a Girl I dream …. Of being successful, and perhaps inspiring someone, someday.
- Because I am a Girl I remember …. Playing around with nail varnish and experimenting with different colors – nothing has changed!
- Because I am a Girl I like …. Makeup, glitter and the occasional soppy film.
- Because I am a Girl I dislike …. Bad hair days!
- Because I am a Girl I feel …. That there’s a long way to go before all countries and cultures expel gender inequality, or the notion of viewing males as being more powerful. I also feel proud that female authors are receiving the same amount of recognition as male authors, I can’t help but wonder what some deceased authors would make of their increasing popularity!
